Obel’s compositions unite alternative, neoclassical, pop, jazz and electronic music into a deeply moving sound world. Her work has become almost indispensable to film, television, video games and even fashion. Her music has been featured, among others, in The Last of Us, True Detective, Big Little Lies and the video game Dark Souls III.
Riverside, Fuel to Fire, The Curse, September Song, It’s Happening Again, Familiar – the list could go on endlessly. The soundscapes created by the Danish artist carry a distinctly Scandinavian magic. They are far more than mere accompaniment: they get under the skin, bring profound emotions to the surface and linger long after the final note. It is therefore no surprise that her music is so often used in key moments in film and television.
Agnes Obel brings together influences from PJ Harvey and Claude Debussy. She is often compared to Ane Brun, Eva Cassidy and Joni Mitchell. Her debut album Philharmonics (2010) was – apart from the John Cale cover I Keep a Close Watch – written, performed and produced entirely by the artist herself. To this day, she brings her all-round talent to every stage of her creative process.
